The grape

2024 Sep 26

That chose not to be a sparkling wine

Grapes when they were born

Were told they had a great demand

Choices were many

Future a certainty

Red White Rose or Sparkling

Bottled and labelled

Priced and prized

It was just right

Till one day a thinking grape was born

Ordinary from outside

Clear from inside

The grape had its own mind

It wanted to drop off the vine

And travel beyond the horizon that the eyes could see

Everyone feared the worst

As they wished it good luck

Many said it was madness

Few wondered is it The One

Seasons passed

Then one day it appeared on the horizon

It had something about it

Like the sailor who had sailed the seven seas

The grapes, young and old, haughty, and humble

Rumbled where were you!

What did you see!

What happened!

The grape took a deep breath and replied

I have realised

The wine sold out there Is our soul!

We don’t need to be bottled to know ourselves

Nor do we need labels to find our worth

We mature better in the open

We taste better with the seasons

We are born with a natural sparkle inside

When the bottle becomes more important than the grape

It’s a sour deal

How did we change!

The valley fell silent

Whispers rose into a crescendo

A roar built up in the billion grapes

FREEDOM!

PS: News spread like wildfire to the neighbouring valley of Romaine lettuce who were getting dressed for Caesar salad, rest as they say is liberty.
