Imagine if the Sun decides to improve its productivity. What would happen to our Solar system. What if it decides to improve its heat generation by 1 degree every year or vice versa.  We would become French fries or ice cream sticks very soon!

We are creative conscious beings not machines. Our purpose is to contribute by being ourselves and applying our unique qualities. Like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle, to complement others, and in the process form a creative entity that is more than sum of the parts.

The more you are in the game of productivity the more likely you are ignorant of your true nature and value.

Someone very smart, few centuries back, reformatted the minds of incoming generations to a false narrative – which is that, we are meant to work faster and better than yesterday and our peers. And that all the people are same, playing the same game and with limited resources.

At best productivity is an industrial age / assembly line concept which needs an honourable burial in the knowledge and ideas age. See for yourself. We hire for capability and impact but measure for productivity. We want leaders and entrepreneurs but insist on quantification of everything. We want agility in times of ambiguity but promote predictability.

What is productivity. Can the output actually exceed the input over a period of time. Can the denominator keep decreasing and numerator keep increasing.  Are you aware of any organization or any entity in nature that has grown endlessly. You know what happens when Sun starts to grow beyond it’s natural size – it is time to say our prayers.

Higher productivity does not lead to higher contribution. Higher contribution does not necessarily require higher productivity.

Find that place, inside and outside, where you are at your best. Inspired and your own benchmark. A place that stretches you and connects you beyond yourself. In such a place productivity is a by-product and not an end in itself.

No one will remember you for being productive.

You are required for who you are. You will be remembered for who you were.
